About Mary Mackey
Making art whether it be painting, photography, printmaking or ceramics, it seems to of always been there. It was always where I felt most uninhibited.
Owning and establishing 2 galleries and starting a ceramic studio, this has been an important part of my process. The fact that I keep returning to some form of art over a 40 year period of time, makes me realize that art is an incremental part of my life.
When I pick up a paint brush, a camera, a piece of clay, a plate for print making, or a blank piece of paper. I attack it with total abandon, It’s the only way I know how to start a new piece, and then hope to let go of the thoughts that render doubts and insecurities.
When you look at my work, I hope to convey a sense of freedom, abandonment, and surprise. At this stage in my career I’m exploring new avenues such as workshops and mentorships to bring new ways of thinking and seeing.
Mary Mackey began her career in the visual arts with a focus on photography. She earned an associates degree from the Colorado Institute of Art in 1981 and began working as a fashion photographer and a photo journalist in Denver, Colorado.
